This 230 acre recreation center is located less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean. Privately managed by a non-profit organization, the Elings Park Foundation is seeking volunteers as Park Hosts to provide guest services to thousands of visitors. The park is a hidden gem that offers five athletic fields, tennis courts, beautiful venues
for weddings & special events, off-leash dog walking program, nine miles of trails, summer camp programs and home to adult softball, rugby, soccer, and lacrosse leagues. Park Hosts must be courteous, customer oriented, friendly, and able to get along with many different personalities. A Park Host will be expected to spend most of their time outdoors performing a variety of visitor services, including, but not limited to general supervision of park visitation, collection of parking fees on
weekends and holidays, monitoring weddings and private events, helping guests at our tennis courts, administrative work, opening and closing various areas of the park daily. Volunteer at a BLM Working Seed Orchard
By Bureau of Land Management Horning Tree Seed Orchard – Colton Oregon (Camp Host to Assist BLM Staff with Compound, Building and Equipment maintenance and Tree Health and Vigor)
OR: Volunteer site host positions available at BLM Seed Orchard. The Walter H. Horning Seed Orchard is a 600-acre BLM facility located near Colton, OR, about 30 miles SE of Portland. This position is open around the beginning of March 2021 and is a year around position for the right person(s).
The volunteer site host maintains a presence on the administrative site to provide security and assist the five person BLM staff with a variety of tasks.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to maintenance and upkeep of building, equipment and grounds, as well as assisting staff with many tasks within the tree orchard and greenhouses to produce seed and to maintain the health and vigor of the orchard trees.
The basic requirements for the host include ability to work in high grass on uneven ground for periods up to two hours at a time. Be able to pass a BLM security screening (background check). Have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Enjoy and be able to perform various landscape maintenance activities on our ½ acre lawn and landscape areas. Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing directions and needs as essential.
Knowledge of and ability to operate and maintain tractors and their implements is a plus.
The BLM requires a minimum of 25 hours/week of volunteer/host time in exchange for providing the following accommodations:
-A gravel pad with full hookups including a large lawn with apple trees and access to a garden.
-Propane, power, water, septic, washer and dryer, satellite TV, and unlimited WiFi.
-Access to the Seed Orchard facilities which consists of a commercial kitchen, lunchroom, bunkhouse, mechanic shop, woodworking shop, tractor shed, office, greenhouses and other misc. buildings.
-All approved expenses are reimbursed.
-There is a reimbursement paid monthly by direct deposit that is based on how many days you provided 24 hours of your presence for the security of the grounds and facilities.
The Orchard is in a rural forested setting with a fantastic view of Mt Hoods.
Well behaved pets are welcome.
We are a working facility charged with producing tree seed for our customers.
Although there is occasional contact with the public, it is minimal and as such many of the usual campground host duties do not apply to this position.
Retired couples or a retired single person who is fit and energetic are encouraged to apply.

Sausage Biscuit Gravy Casserole
There are a few homemade dishes that always bring back memories from growing up. They may not be the most healthy, contain the most expensive ingredients, or could be thrown together from a combination of things already premade or in the pantry. One of these is a recipe my mother has made over the years, especially during the colder weather when we would have an occasional Snow Day from school. To this day, the smell emanating from the oven as this recipe
is cooking reminds me of listening to the school closure announcements on the radio as a kid hoping to hear my school’s name come up as my mother would throw this together. There is nothing better than loading up on this casserole for breakfast before heading out into the snow!
We have made this recipe adding in green peppers, onions, jalapenos and different types of sausage. But even without any added ingredients, this is still a very satisfying meal and will stick to your ribs more than Dicor RV roof sealant!

Ingredients:
1 tube of Buttermilk Biscuit Dough (Usually Pillsbury Grands)
1 Pound Ground Sausage
1 ½ Cup Shredded Cheese
6 Eggs
½ Cup Milk
1 Package (2 ¾ ounce) Peppered or Sausage Gravy
½ Cup chopped Green Onions
Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions:
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
Grease a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
Brown and drain ground sausage (You can also use precooked as well as sliced links instead of ground sausage)
Separate the raw biscuits from the tube and cut each one into quarters. Layer the bottom of the pan with the quartered dough, they don’t have to be tightly packed since they will expand when baking.
Distribute the sausage pieces over the dough layer
Distribute the green onions and the shredded cheese over the sausage layer
Whisk the eggs, milk, salt and pepper together and then pour over the sausage/cheese/biscuit layers.
Prepare the gravy according to directions, then event distribute over the top of everything in the baking dish
Bake for 40 minutes until the eggs are set and the biscuits are cooked through

Pre-plan your personal meal menus each week. This will help you eat healthier, because quick last minute meals are often not healthy and contain a lot of fats, sugars, starches, and carbohydrates.
Planed menus will require you to shop for the ingredients ahead of time, offer a greater variety, and often cost less. Pre-planning menus will also save you time. You will not have to figure out what to make or defrost. Your ingredient needs will already be determined by your menu. Try it for a few weeks and watch what happens.
