Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

We see all sorts of work wanted ads and resumes. Some of them look like they belong in the Personals rather than the Work Wanted sections. Here are some tips to guide you.

Writing a Good Work Wanted Ad

~ State your skills and accomplishments, relevant to the job you want. It is easy to write that you are responsible, a hard worker, and can handle all aspects of the job. What employer will believe it? After all, have you ever seen an employee describe himself as a not-too-bright, irresponsible deadbeat? Be specific. List your skills. List your relevant accomplishments.

~ Emphasize your talents and capacity to do the job. Have you been trained for the job? Do you have any relevant certifications? Have you won any awards or received recognition for similar work? If so, include that information.

~ Focus on your ability to do the job. Do your age, marital status, pets, children, type of RV, and home state have anything to do with improving your ability to do the work you seek? If not, don’t mention them.

~ Your ad is a sample of your communication skills. Proofread and correct any spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes. The way you write your ad says more about your communication skills than any words you use to describe them. Rather than telling the employer you have good communications skills, let your classified ad demonstrate it.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip - Why Should We Hire You?

Why should an employer hire you and not the other guy? It's the age-old question that you've been told to prepare for at job interviews since you applied for your first part-time job. It still holds true today. Prepare your answer before you get to the job interview.

Working RVer Tip - What Do You Mean?

Don't get into situations you don't want to be in because you assume what terms mean. A word that means one thing to you likely means something else to the employer. Jargon such as "camp host" does not have a specific meaning. General terms, such as "lite duties" and "manager" are so vague that they don't tell you what duties are part of the job.
