Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Where to next? One of the biggest challenges for working RVers is where to go for the next job. Not because it is hard to find jobs. But, because there are so many options.

We first went to Port Isabel, Texas, the winter of 1996/1997. Every time that we've gone back, we've enjoyed ourselves. There are many things we like about the community -- friends, inexpensive cost of living, an abundance of fresh produce and seafood, the weather, being near the water, more activities than a Winter Texan can possibly take part in, etc. It's easy to go back year after year. We were there part of last winter and we were there again for part of this winter.

So, why did we move? There are more places to go. There are more sites to see. There are more things to do.

We are now on Galveston Island. We came through Galveston about a year ago. We stopped long enough to buy gas and eat. And, to pick up a couple of tourist magazines that tempted us with all sorts of things Galveston.

Our neighbors here at Galveston Island RV Resort work here at the park. Not only are they working RVers, they are Workers On Wheels readers! Not long before we got here, I received an email from the couple who are now beside us. She asked me to remove their Work Wanted ad from the website. They have work lined up for the coming months, and didn't want to continue receiving job offers. She said they were surprised to have so many responses. Visiting with the folks behind us, he also talked of numerous opportunities. He commented on how easy it is to find work, both by going to campgrounds and by using the Help Wanted ads on the Workers On Wheels website.

Bob wrote a new article for you this week. It's about two of our property caretaking experiences. Although both times it was the same property and the same owners, they were very different jobs.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip -- Know What You Want from Full-Timing

Why are you a full-time RVer? Answer that question and it can tell you what kind of work is best for you. In the past when I've asked the question, "Why are you a full
-time RVer?" a few thought it was a rhetorical question, that we all just knew the one reason. But, there are many reasons. Knowing your reason can also tell you what kind of jobs to avoid.

Working RVer Tip -- It's Not Forever

A short-term job isn't necessarily a lifetime career. Keep that in mind before turning down job offers that are less than perfect. Something you may not want -- or may not be able -- to do for months or years, may be fine for a few days or weeks.

Working RVer Tip -- Resume Tip

When putting together your work camper resume, emphasize what is relevant to your future employer. While it may go against what you've been taught about resume writing, most campground owners don't care about seeing a list of every job you've had during the past 30 or 40 years. They want to know what skills you have that you can apply to the position they have open. They also want to see something that shows you have the right attitude to work well at their park.
