Reaching Issue #1001 is worth celebrating. We're planning some give-a-ways over the next few weeks. Be sure to open all your emails from us and to click through to the Workers On Wheels website.
I wonder how many thousands of job listings we've posted; how many positions we helped fill; how many businesses have listed their Help Wanted ads with us, and how many RVers we've helped to find work -- at no charge! They would be interesting statistics to know, but we were too busy posting the job openings and answering your questions to keep track! Suffice it to say, "a
lot!"
A couple bits of history that we can share: The first print issue of the Workers On Wheels Newsletter was published in February 1994. The first issue of the WOW E-zine was published September 26, 1999. It's been a labor of love since the beginning.
And, we plan to keep on with it!

=Working RVer Tip - Go Where You Want to Spend Time
Don't travel across the country for the sole
purpose of specific position. Go to an area where you want to spend time. That way, if the job doesn’t pan out, you are less likely to feel stuck. If you like the area, you may be more willing to tough out a job until the end of your commitment. If you decide leaving the job is best, you can focus on finding another one, not on getting out of a place you didn't want to be in the first place.

Working RVer Tip - Shoulder
Season
We're starting to get job openings for the fall shoulder season. These are the weeks at the end of the season. Summer is winding down. College kids and classroom teachers are going back to school. However, summer businesses are still open. Northern campgrounds, summer food stands, summer
tourists attractions, and other seasonal businesses need workers to fill in for those who are leaving. It is an excellent way to try out a job, to work a place a short time before committing to an entire season. These shoulder season positions are also ideal for people who don't want to spend an entire season at one job, no matter how great the job.

Picking a topic that you enjoy can make it seem more like fun than work. Still, you have to figure out a way to make money with it. The focus of your resume cover letter or
contact email about a prospective job should focus on what you can do for the employer. Asking for "a chance" comes across as whiney and gives the impression that you lack both skills and experience for the job. Carrying on about what you want or what makes you happy comes across as self-centered and self-serving. Both give the impression that you think the employer should hire you to meet your needs, rather than the needs of his business.

Positive RVing Attitudes
It's where we go, and what we do when we get there, that tells us who we are. ~ Joyce Carol Oates
