Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Voluntourism. Have you heard that term before? A press release that came across my desk defines "voluntourism" as a travel experience that provides the opportunity to contribute to local community projects and development initiatives with some time off to visit the highlights of that particular destination or country. Sounds to me like the volunteer work campers and RVers have been doing for decades.

What a world of difference perspective makes! Is the employer doing you a favor by hiring you? Are you doing the employer a favor by working for him? How you see the situation depends on which side of the fence you sit.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip - Interact With Local Workers

Visit with people who are already doing the kind of work you want to do. Go the places those workers go. Example: Want to work on a fishing charter? Frequent the marina cafe, the tackle and bait shops, and the fish cleaning docks.

Property Caretakers Are As Varied As Their Caretaking Jobs

Good property caretakers are honest and dependable. Those may be the only characteristics they share. Their skills, education, personal preference, background, and outlook on life vary greatly.

Do you describe yourself as "people person?" Some like to be in the hustle and bustle of things. They like camp hosting because they get to meet each camper that comes to the park. They may work as nannies and thrive on being involved with the children's social activities.

Are you a loner? Some property caretakers are. They enjoy solitude. They find working by themselves peaceful. These caregivers work in remote places. They may tend to herds of sheep or other livestock. They enjoy campgrounds, resorts, and hunting and fishing lodges -- in the off season, when others have left.
