Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Visiting Soldotna and want to start your week with a freshly made apple fritter or a still-warm-from-the-oven pastry? Sorry, you can't. The bakery is closed. They can't find enough bakers or counter help. Have a hankering to take home a moose mug? Sorry, you can't do that last minute Monday morning shopping. The gift shop is closed. They can't find the staff to keep it open. These are seasonal positions. Positions that pay for all hours worked. Positions with flexible hours. Positions with early hours, which frees you up to spend the nicest part of the day sightseeing.

Businesses are cutting back their hours of operation simply because they cannot find employees.

Have you worked at a fair or on the fairgrounds? If so, I'd like to hear about your experience. Anything from setting up a booth selling kitchenware to being a parking lot attendant, serving as the off-season fairgrounds camp host to a rodeo clown, operating rides with the carnival to repairing the roof on the fair office building, judging the goats to providing musical entertainment. WOW! Those are just a few examples. Whatever kind of work you've done on the grounds of a county, state, or regional fair, drop me an email and tell me about it.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip - Write Your Own Work Agreement.

If having a written contract or work agreement is important to you, write it yourself. Make sure it includes the items you consider deal breakers. Sign it and have the employer sign it. Provide the employer with a signed copy and you keep a signed copy. It is easy to forget verbal agreements. Having a written contract does not guarantee the job will be as you envision it. It can, however, prevent misunderstandings and clear up the "he said, she said," question.

Working RVer Tip

Make it easy for an employer to hire you. Provide two ways he can reach you. Answer his phone call. Reply to his email. Have a resume written up and ready to send. Have your list of references, with contact information, ready. Know your availability dates. Use a cover let that tells why you are qualified for the job. Focus on meeting the employer's needs.
