Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Bob and I are in Homer, Alaska, for a few days. We're staying in the city campground. We have a waterfront site. The cost is $15 a night. It's hard to imagine a more gorgeous place to work.

In addition to this Workers On Wheels Newsletter about work for RVers and campers, we also publish a general RVing newsletter. The RV Life and Travel Newsletter and goes along with our RV-Life-and-Travel.com website. I should have that newsletter going out later in the week. So, if you'd like more info about this part of Alaska, or would like to see pictures, be sure you are on the list for that. There is no cost to you. Subscribe to RV Life and Travel Newsletter here.

Speaking of Homer, the city is still looking for a campground host. They are currently running an ad in the classified section of the local weekly paper.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip - Follow Application Instructions if You Want the Job

Did you apply for a campground job, wait for a reply, but never hear back? One reason may be that you did not follow the application instructions. Carefully read the Help Wanted posting. Follow the directions. If it says to send a picture of you and your rig with your resume, then, if you want the job, you need to send those photos. And, you need to send a resume, not just an email saying you are interested in the job. If it says to call, that means to use your telephone and call -- don't expect a reply if you email. If the ad states "no pets," but your resume indicates you travel with your indoor cat, don't expect a reply.

I understand that you may not want to be micro-managed. I understand that you may be a free-thinker who doesn't like following instructions. If that's your personality, then a position with detailed instructions in the Help Wanted ad probably isn't for you. If the supervisor provides specific instructions for applying for the job, he is also apt to provide specific instructions for performing the job.

Kids In the RVing Family - How Having Children Along Affects Work Camping Jobs

This is a guest article on our website, written by an RVing mother, Heather Wickline.

Prior to hitting the road, I had heard a lot of horror stories about families being turned away from jobs because they had kids and never disclosed it during the phone interviews. So, before I ever got my first work camping job, I made the decision that I was going to be upfront and honest about the fact that I had kids.

Working RVer Tip - Choose Your Email Address

When you submit a Work Wanted ad or resume to a website, newspaper, or employment service, the world sees it. Consider using a disposable email address for your contact. You can get them hotmail.com or yahoo.com.  One reason to do this is for privacy. This also lets you choose an email name that reflects the image you want to portray to employers.
