Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

What can you hire yourself to do? Bob's had a busy workweek. He did mechanical work -- replaced a brake master cylinder and changed out a starter. He did RV maintenance -- serviced batteries and changed fluids. He did RV repairs -- fixed a damaged area on the ceiling, fixed some under-sink plumbing. He did RV renovations -- added a catalytic safety heater, removed accordion doors. Strictly speaking, he didn't get paid to do these, or any of the many other projects he completed this past week. However, if he hadn't been willing and able to do them, we'd have hired someone else to do them, paying their regular rates. The money he saved us is money in the bank we didn't spend. He didn't need to work for someone else, because he was working for us.

You may not be handy with mechanical and fix-it jobs. But, you can "hire" yourself to do other things. Your receipts should give you some ideas.

Working RVer Tip - Use Your Magic Words

Remember when your parents taught you to use the "magic words" when you wanted something or when someone gave you something? Those simple phrases are still important on the job. "Please," "thank you," "excuse me," "good morning," and "good night," have amazing impact.

Working RVer Tip - Handling Mistakes

When you make a mistake, take responsibility for it. Admit it. Apologize for it. Work to see that it doesn't happen again. Don't blame the boss or your co-workers for it. Then, stop dwelling on it. Put the focus back on doing your job.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Permanent Jobs that Pay the Bills

~~ Jewell asks: Do you have permanent jobs that pay wages where a husband and wife can both work and make enough money to pay bills, etc?

~~ I answered in part: Yes, there are permanent jobs for RVers that pay wages good enough to live on.

Some are in fixed locations. Look for campgrounds, marinas, and motels that need managers or permanent maintenance workers. Check out mini-storage facilities that need security or on-site staff. Year round theme parks are another option. Other options are museums, fair grounds, and year round living history attractions. Many of these facilities have RV parking, often with full hook-ups, on their properties.

Others are permanent jobs with a single company, but they require travel. Erecting fences. Doing gas line leak detection. Corporate trainers. Educational speakers and seminar presenters.

~~ Read the longer version of my answer -- and add your comments -- on the website.

Positive RVing Attitudes

Thanksgiving was never meant to be shut up in a single day. ~ Robert Caspar Lintner

Thanksgiving, like contentment, is a learned attribute. The person who hasn’t learned to be content…lives with the delusion he deserves more or something better. ~ Robert Flatt
